What is the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes?

EXCELLENT question!

Type 1 occurs when the body doesn't make insulin, therefore a person is required to take insulin injections to replace the needed hormone. This type typically occurs before the age of 40.

Type 2, on the other hand, occurs when the body DOES make insulin but the insulin isn't as efficient as needed. This will result in a high blood sugar. Although people with Type 2 may need to be on insulin (pill if able,) diet, exercise, and weight loss have been found to effectively control Type 2 diabetes.

It's very important to receive medical guidance from your physician and to be appropriately monitored...regardless of the type of diabetes.
