Get Rid of the Baggage
I had the best epiphany yesterday!
It is so very important to examine your life and get rid of any baggage...anything that is bringing you down...that is attached to negative energy. This can take the form of many different things.
It may be a past experience that still affects you.
It may be a "friendship" that has become an "energy" blackhole.
It may be a fear.
It can be ANYTHING!
Yesterday morning, I sat down with a whole host of "things" going on in my life and examined them. I made very conscious decisions as I weeded through them. I simplified my life yesterday, and it feels wonderful...sometimes cleaning up a list is the only thing needed.
When baggage weighs me down specifically, I have found that I turn to food for comfort. By getting rid of the baggage, I feel lighter in my spirit, in my mind...this will translate to my body. It is so important that I take care of myself.
I feel GREAT, TERRIFIC, ALIVE, LIGHT!!!!!
Baggage be gone!

Women Empowering Women
One of my wonderful coaches, Tammy, emailed me this evening with some of her personal thoughts. She was simply writing to get "things" off her chest...no intention of posting it, but I was very touched by what I read and amazed at her candor. With her permission, I am posting her email here:
Thoughts:
Ok so I am thinking... what do I see here? I lurked, I joined and I felt like a family, all different colors, shapes sizes and nationality of women encouraging each other to do great things. I work in Financial Corporate America and I can say wow I have seen some really mess up things that women do to each other. I usually keep to my self... I am always constantly looking within: Can I be better at something? How can I be a better person? Am I perfect? LOL errrm NO! Though many days I try to be superwoman, it just doesn't happen! I fall shorter than short! I have learned and am continuing to learn to look within my self and remember that change is good. There should always is a time for retrospection.
Coming out better:
I have found that in life that we are forced to undergo changes MOSTLY due to some minor or major trauma or difficulty; some come out better and unfortunately some regress.
For the most part when we come out better we find ourselves functioning at higher threshold... We suddenly realize can DEAL with things we never thought possible - DO things we never thought possible! AND amazingly are STRONGER for it! I have come to the realization though that you don't have to go thru huge difficulties in order to change or be stronger… I could prob go on for pages but I guess you get my drift...
Let me make 2 examples of what I mean by surpassing thresholds and being stuck at one:
Surpassing: You go thru something, you learn from it, you grow, you move forward, you don’t do it the same way you did in the past. Stuck: Something happened to you, say when you were 17 and if affected you in a traumatic way, suddenly you find your self in a similar position today, or what seems like a similar situation and you over react because it feels so darn familiar and horrible and it just grinds your guts to think about it and suddenly you are reacting as if its happening all over again. Sounds familiar? Then your threshold to move on from such a situation is stuck! Arghh hope that makes sense!
The Thread
You know, finding the thread, I felt a connection to so many women here... I read the stories, they are funny, they are frustrating, they are venting, and they are encouraging... All in all a place you felt heard and, at the very same time, not judged. A place where not just coaches, but people typing up response posts faster than you can press refresh! I have seen MOSTLY success stories and a few who just disappeared along the way... I find my self wondering, what happened that one or this one?? I know we all came here with the same thoughts... How can I get slim and look good and feel better. But I think for a lot of us, we got something even better... We made friends and connections to people who we have no clue what their voices sound like but we feel close all the same :-). We Lost inches, We Lost Weight, We Lost Fat! We Lost Bad Habits!
I want to be very clear and keep short this next sentence though it has weighed heavily on me these past days. I am not really a confrontational person, but I am moved to share in order to PRESERVE what we have built here. I will ask please that you read and really read. Examine your thoughts and feelings on this matter. Comment and Share if you want to, but this is not a bashing contest nor is it about proving point. I wish I were more eloquent to express and write in a way that is moving. Alas, here goes.... I have seen a few tiffs lately. Exchanges... some shocking and contemptuous; some delivered with sugary insinuation and insidiousness; ideas simulated without the respect of permission. I could go on but will stop here... Because honestly? The good of this place outweighs even these things...
Continue:
Let us continue to give because our hearts demand it... Let us continue to be encouraging because we can. Let us for the time we are here and a member of this community, continue to believe in each other and support each other in whatever program/venture/path we take on.
I don't care if you are religious or not, but something amazing happens when you give without reservation and without expectation in return... Suddenly life seems abundant and one has to wonder why.
I know this, I am grateful to have found it here in this really unlikely place. Let us continue to challenge our selves, find meaning and answers to hardship that life dishes out... TOGETHER.
Battle of the bulge:
OK Zen moment over, LOL, Damn it ladies, BRING IT and Bring it hard with your attitude, with your motivation, with your eating, with your sense of what is right, with EACH OTHER.
After thought:
Look at what I have seen? Look at what WE/lurkers have seen from you all and...
In no particular order, the following... Things I remember, things I appreciated.:
Rochelle: Thank you for being there for me when I had to just let it all loose, I am grateful for your advice, encouragement and that you are stern when you need to be. I see your progress and I aspire to it. I have come to think of you as a dear friend and I am grateful for it.
Indie: Wow, you really are one to follow... you went thru a break up you didn't let it hold you down, you lost weight, you encouraged and you are now a co*ach helping people.
Hope: LOL you are a crazy a$$ hippie and you keep this place alive... I see you though! You give and give even when you are going thru difficulty; you find time for others around you. You inspire change and bring lightness to our hearts.
Donna: You’re sweet and encouraging and thank you for the time you took to draw us personal pictures... We miss you!

Business Opportunity
I get emails all the time from people who are interested in the coaching aspect of Beachbody. Last night, I attended a "webinar" for the first time. It was led by the CEO of Beachbody, and I sat comfortably in my home, watching on my computer and listening on my phone. You gotta LOVE today's technology!
Anyways, Carl did a FABULOUS presentation on WHY coaches are needed and WHAT that can mean for you! The webinar is free. No one even knows that you are there and listening. Carl hosts webinars almost every Tuesday. If you are interested in watching/listening, please email me and I'll give you the information. The access code changes, so I can't post it.
We've moved
For those of you who post or lurk on our threads, you will notice a change from yesterday. WE'VE MOVED HOMES!!!!! The Angels (part of the GoFitCoach coaching group) collectively made the decision for a couple of reasons: our old thread was at 193 pages and made it difficult to find anything AND we wanted access to the front of our thread to post daily announcements.
NOTHING ELSE IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THE NEWBIE THREAD!
If you haven't been on our threads, now is the perfect time to check us out!!! The Newbie Thread is our fast-paced, absolutely wild and crazy place to get inspiration and motivation. The Newbie Cafe is our slow-paced, relaxed place where you will still get inspiration and motivation.

What Is Your Body Mass Index?
By Jude Buglewicz
It's no secret that the U.S. is one of the fattest nations in the world: 66.3 percent of Americans over 20 years old are overweight or obese (about 140 million); 32 percent are obese (67 million); and almost 5 percent (9 million) are morbidly obese. Among adolescents 12 to 19 years old, over 17 percent are overweight (over 12.5 million)—16 percent are girls and 18.2 percent are boys. But what exactly do the terms "overweight," "obese," and "morbidly obese" mean, and why should these distinctions matter to you?
The standard definitions as used by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO) (and most social science and medical journals that rely on the data from those organizations) are based on body mass index (BMI) levels. This is a calculation using your height and your weight.
Calculate your BMIMetric formula. Divide your weight (in kilograms) by your height (in meters) squared: weight (kg)/height squared (m2).
NIH method. If you prefer good ole American pounds and inches, multiply your weight (in pounds) by 704.5. Divide that by your height (in inches). Then divide that number again by your height (in inches): weight (lbs.) x 704.5/height (inches)/height (inches).
Which group are you in?Normal weight – BMI of 18.5 to 24.9. Nonsmokers in this range have the lowest risk of disease and premature death.
Overweight – BMI of 25 or more. This group has an increased risk of weight-related medical problems, including diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
Obese – BMI of 30 or more (at least 30 pounds overweight). Below are some statistics associated with this group.
- 67 million Americans (32 percent of adults)
- Women: 36 million (33 percent)
- Men: 32 million (31 percent)
- The number of obese American adults doubled in the last 20 years.
- Weight-related medical problems increase sharply for this group: type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, breast and colon cancer, gall bladder disease, high blood pressure (twice as common as for people at a healthy weight), stroke, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems, etc.
- This group has a 50-percent to 100-percent increased risk of premature death from all causes.
Morbidly obese – BMI of 40 or more (typically about 100 pounds overweight). Below are statistics associated with the morbidly obese group.
- 9 million Americans (almost 5 percent)
- The number of morbidly obese American adults quadrupled in the last 20 years.
- People in this group have an increased risk for a shorter life expectancy (it could be up to 20 years shorter). Death from diabetes or heart attack is 5 to 7 times greater than for non-obese people, heart disease is 6 times more common, and diabetes is 10 times more common.
Data from the National Center for Health Statistics, based on 2003–2004 estimates from National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES), and from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
Problems with BMIAlthough body mass index is the most commonly used measurement of obesity, it doesn't distinguish between fat and fat-free mass, like muscle and bone. Bodybuilders and other athletes with lots of muscle (which weighs more than fat) may have high BMIs, and so they would be classified as "overweight" or "obese," though they're more likely to be healthy and fit—not fat. And older people who lose muscle mass through the aging process and then replace muscle weight with fat may still have the same height and weight, and so the same BMI number, though they'd actually be "fatter."
Because of such concerns, some researchers are pressing for more accurate ways to assess body fat, including using body fat percentage, while others argue that it's the location of body fat that's most important, not simply how much of it you have. Excessive deep abdominal fat is far worse than fat around your hips and thighs, as it is linked to an increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and other serious medical conditions. Your waist measurement, then, is also a gauge of your health (over 35 inches for women and over 40 inches for men are associated with higher disease risk).
But because BMI is so easy to determine, and because most of the research on the medical risks stemming from obesity is based on BMI data, your body mass index is a number worth knowing.
Reverse the trend! If you're reading this, chances are you've bought a Beachbody® product—perhaps P90X® or Turbo Jam® or Hip Hop Abs®—and you are on your way to a long-term healthy and fit lifestyle. Good for you! And if right now you happen to be one of the 140 million Americans who are considered overweight or obese, just keep exercising, Keep Pushing Play, and keep eating right. Below are just three benefits that you can look forward to.
- You'll lower your risk of heart disease or stroke by losing just 5 percent to 15 percent of your weight.
- You'll lower your risk of type 2 diabetes (losing 10 to 15 pounds is enough for most people, according to the American Diabetes Association).
- By losing 10 percent of your weight, you can have a 10-percent decrease in total cholesterol and a 40-percent decrease in obesity-related cancers.
And if you're one of the 9 million morbidly obese Americans, take heart. Have a look at the 2007 Million Dollar Body Game® Grand Prize Winners, a group of dedicated individuals who prove that regular exercise and a healthy diet can dramatically alter your life for the better. As Jenn B., 2006 Success Story, says, "I'm so much happier and healthier and I have more confidence, better posture...heck, I've got my life back! My medical conditions (constant back pain, leg pain, asthma) have fixed themselves." Amazing what you can do if you're committed.

7,026 Inspring People
This comes from Carl's (BB CEO) blog:
The Beachbody Revolution Has Officially Begun!
Last night Beahcbody cleared the "current coach" count of 7,000! This network of people-helping-people is expanding, and a tipping point is on the horizon. That's 7,026 people who have claimed their power to turn their weight loss into profit, to help those around them, and solve the health care crisis in this country simply by inspiring people to actually get healthier.
The motivation tools are all their to shift this into an even higher gear; The Million Dollar Body Game, the WOWY Super Gym, and the inspiration of the Team Beachbody Community. This is the beginning of something big, and the momentum is clear. A concept that started simply witnessing how an online message board of people supporting each other could achieve faster and more reliable results has started to scale into a vast community that is turning the enthusiasm for "how great it feels to feel good" into a revolutionary movement.
Thank you to every Beachbody Coach who has unleashed their creativity and courage to help us achieve this milestone!
How fast to 8,000? Keep building those Success Links, and stay tuned!

Significant others can make dieting difficult
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - A spouse or partner can often help keep your new diet on track, but in some cases they just put up roadblocks, a new study shows. In interviews with 21 couples in which one partner was trying to make diet changes, Canadian researchers found that the non-dieting significant other was usually supportive. Some kept tabs on the partner's eating, for instance, while others changed their own shopping and eating habits. In some cases, however, partners were a hindrance, the researchers report in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior. A few dieters, for example, complained that their partners would eat junk food or other forbidden treats in front of them. In other cases, the non-dieting half of the couple overtly expressed skepticism about the new diet and the partner's ability to stick with it. "Significant others who demonstrated strong support for their partner's dietary change typically described their relationship as very supportive and often saw their direct participation in the change as a natural extension of their relationship," lead researcher Dr. Judy Paisley, of Ryerson University in Toronto, said in a statement. In contrast, partners who put up obstacles were typically unaware that their behavior was negative, the researchers found. In some cases, the investigators found that partners might have believed they were being positive by simply not complaining about the diet change, for example. The dieting partner, however, might need more-obvious encouragement, the researchers note. The findings, according to Paisley's team, suggest that diet changes need to be seen as a "shared activity" between partners. This is important, they note, because one partner's diet makeover necessarily changes food buying and mealtime for both. SOURCE: Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior, March/April, 2008.

Superhero
I've been struggling.
There's no shame in it. I'm human.
I am a self-professed emotional eater. I have been all my life. Growing up, I was taught that you eat when you are happy, sad, celebrating, bored, and STRESSED. I have been under a tremendous amount of stress due to my brother's brain tumor and impending surgery, homeschooling and trying to work through the struggles my son is having, my husband's business and the current economy, the unfortunate end of a friendship, trying to be everything to all people, burning the candle at both ends.
Being a coach is SO important to me. It is important because I have seen too many things in my many years as a nurse that could have been prevented with a proper diet and exercise. I LOVE to teach people. It's my nature. It's what I do as a nurse. I have always been that nurse that took the new nurses under her wing. I've been the mama.
However, being a coach brings a certain level of responsibility. I know that. I know that people hold me to a different standard. I know that people look up to me. I appreciate it, but I don't deserve it. I am no different than any of you.
One of my coaches hit the bullseye when she told me that she thinks of me as a superhero. Wow. A superhero. In a cartoon world, it sounds nice. In reality, it's pressure that I can't live up to.
I'm here to tell you that I am NOT a superhero. I'm an ordinary woman with typical life issues. I have to take one day at a time just like you do. I mess up. I climb back up. I'm surrounded by caring people to hold me up.
I'm human. There's no shame in it.
